This Historic Trail was built in 1931 by the U.S. Government to access the rim of Black Canyon overlooking what was then known as Boulder Dam (built in Black Canyon)
All 5 tunnels are 25 feet in diameter. They were oversized to fit huge penstock sections and large equipment being transported to the Dam site. The tracks were dismantled in 1962 and sold as scrap. Our bicycle tour will take us through all 5 tunnels and continue on to Hoover Dam and the By Pass Bridge that spans the Colorado just downstream from the dam. Incredible views of Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and the By-Pass Bridge. Look for desert Big Horn Sheep, Lizards, ground squirrels and rattlesnakes. The entire trail is a non-technical groomed gravel road. Time is given to hike up to the bridge and walk around Hoover Dam. Our return trip will stop at the bone yard.
